Meet the Browns

Fortunately, this has absolutely nothing to do with Tyler Perry!

This past weekend two of my very good friends, David Brown and the former Teni Osinubi got married. In short, it was perfect. Probably one of the best experiences of my life and I wasn't even getting married! I'll give you the rundown of the wedding weekend from my perspective (this is my blog who else's perspective would it be?)

Friday: Most of the homies came in town. We were staying at the W hotel in Midtown Atlanta. That was def one of the nicest hotels I've ever had the chance to stay in (at least on my own dime lol). We had a boys night out on the town. Some of us enjoyed it more than others (and definitely paid for it the next day!) I would give you details but...then I'd have to kill you lol. .

Saturday: I vaguely remember the day time. We had wedding rehearsal where I had the unfortunate opportunity to practice with the ugliest bridesmaid ever, Andrew lol. This was our first look at the venue and that joint was banging. Def on a scene out of the movies. The venue was on this like lawn thing at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I was very grateful to discover that the wedding party would be in the shade during the ceremony. I also was delighted to find out who my real bridesmaid was lol.

We headed back to the hotel got dressed for the wedding party. The wedding was at the Osinubi's house out in College Park. It was the funniest drive because the GPS had us going all through random streets. One of which was Campbelton Rd (almost by my old hood). We went through some pretty raggedy spots with like 6 churches in 3 blocks (no lie) and 3 liquor stores. Then all of a sudden we start seeing big ass houses. Def a part of the city I've never been to before. We pull up at the Osinubi's big ass house and of course we're nervous about going in cuz we were late and none of our friends were there yet. Of course Andrew exercised his White privilege and walked right in the house. We walked in during family introductions, it was a very interesting scene to say the least. The Bride and Groom were sitting at the front of the room in what I presume was traditional nigerian clothing (I'm not nigerian so I don't want to assume what's traditional and what's not). The Bride had fam there from all over the world, which was both impressive and sad. It was impressive that they'd traveled so far to see her get married. What was sad was that folks who live in the same country even city with their family often don't go to their family member's wedding. After the family members had been introduced for the most part the guy with mic gave me the mic, at this point I was like uhhhh luckily David saw me and saved me from embarrassing myself. The intros were reserved for the family

We said a prayer and it was time to eat. I have no clue what I had to eat but it was delicious. I remember I had some Jollof rice, some greens, some beef dish, and a chicken dish. The greens had fish in them which was a new experience for me. So I had an awkward moment where I was tryna spit out the bones but I didn't want to look like I didn't like the food (but I'm sure my clean plate showed that I loved it lol). Apparently I missed out on the pounded yams. But that's a funny story, when I was walking by them it was this oblong whitish shape and it was shiny. So it kinda looked wet. All of a sudden this lady jumps me in line and grabs one of them with her bare hands!!! I was like ??? It looked like she grabbed a cornish hen or something. I was scared to eat it after that, she was super gangsta with the grab. I think I was moving too slow in the line for her. I was later informed that the yams were wrapped in Saran wrap and weren't wet! And that's how you were supposed to pick them up! But either way the lady punked me from eating them.

Later the rest of our friends came and it was so nice to see my homegirls many of whom I hadn't seen since graduation or homecoming 2007. Basically the DJ turned on the music and we partied well into the night. Eventually we all went back to the hotel and hit up the lounge for their expensive ass drinks. We all drank and were very merry! I took it easy this night (well about as easy as I can go when boozing is involved lol), wasn't tryna be a mess on the big day.

Sunday: The BIG DAY!

I woke up early on Sunday because I was too nervous to sleep. I lied in bed for a few hours then I shook the nervousness off. Had to remind myself that I wasn't the one getting married! Got up hung around the hotel for a lil while eventually it was time to get dressed and take pics. I must say we all look great in our tuxes. There ain't nothing better IMO than wearing a suit that is tailored specifically for your body type. The photographers came and we took pics and got in the limo to Atlanta Botanical Gardens.

At the gardens we took more pics. I also committed a huge wedding faux pas. I posted pics of the bride on twitter. It really was an innocent mistake. I just wanted to share my joy with my folks on twitter, many of whom knew the bride and groom. But when the groom found out, he gave me one of the angriest looks I can ever remember.

So I want to take this time to apologize to the Bride and Groom, I truly meant no harm. And I didnt know it was against the wedding rules. I've since deleted all the photos so please don't kill me. I'm truly sorry.

I spent all of yesterday agonizing over my mistake. I've truly never seen David that angry except maybe that one time freshmen year. Sigh, I'm a terrible friend. I'm always fucking up. Fortunately my friends haven't shot me in the face yet (though I'm sure they've wanted to at least waterboard me).

So anyway after some amazing pics it was time for the big moment. I walked out with my beautiful bridesmaid, we were def in the top 5 of most handsome pairs at the wedding lol #humility. Surprisingly it was relatively cool and breezy. Then out walked Teni looking as beautiful as ever. I think I might've seen her dad crack a smile!!! The ceremony was short, biblical, and beautiful. I might have got some sweat that kept leaking out of my eyes, it was hot out there! (at least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)

After the ceremony there was a cocktail hour with delicious hors d'oeuvres. Gotta love open bars with the top shelf stuff!!! I got in the photobooth acting a fool (they had one of those instant photobooths which I thought was a super cool idea). Afterwards we entered the reception and they announced us and stuff. I def felt cool. David and Teni walked in to OMG by Usher which I thought was so hilarious and adorable I bet it was David's idea, sounds like his kinda song. The dinner was downright off the chain. David and Teni were out making their rounds so their plates got cold. Lowkey I wanted to eat their food lol but I'm not as greedy as Seun lol (inside joke).

After licking my plate and chatting it up with my accompanying bridesmaid, Funmi (she might be one of the few people who can out talk me lol) it was time for the toasts. My line brother William gave a great toast (he didn't say the one he wrote but it was beautiful nonetheless). After the toasts and stuff it was time to hit the dance floor. I was feeling good at that point so I made my way to the dance floor to cut a rug. We basically danced the night away. I was so busy dancing that I barely got a chance to eat the wedding cake. There was lots of dancing and making it rain. I'm sure the newlyweds racked up with the bread! 2 people who I didn't know caught the bouquet and the garter, they happened to be dating. The guy went flying after that garter like it was a falling baby. I'm not gonna clown David for his weak ass throw until he gets back from the honeymoon lol. Later we bid the bride and groom adieu, went back to hotel, and most folks went straight to bed. The epic weekend was coming to an end. It was one of the most beautiful things I've had the pleasure to witness.

I pray that God blesses the Browns with endless years of happy marriage. Amen.
